Leeds Anti-Cuts Convention, Feburary 16th

Hands Off Our Homes will be attending the Leeds Anti-Cuts convention on Feburary 16th. It should be a good opportunity to connect up and grow anti-cuts action in Leeds. If you are interested in taking action to stop the barbaric cuts we recommend you come along!

Leeds Anti-Cuts Convention
Saturday 16 February
11.30-4.30 pm, Swarthmore Centre
2-7 Woodhouse Square Leeds, Yorkshire LS3 1AD

2013 will be a crucial year for turning back the tide of Tory austerity, so anti-cuts campaigners are calling a Leeds-wide Anti-Cuts Convention to relaunch the resistance.

The Convention will kick off with a Unison shop steward from the local Mid-Yorks Hospital strike, and a Hull Labour councillor who is one of a group of councillors who have pledged to refuse to pass on anymore Tory cuts.

This will be followed by a lunch break with stalls and network meet ups, followed by workshops on Health, Education, Benefits and Housing cuts, all led off by local campaign groups, trade unionists and activists and with plenty of time to ask questions, discuss the issues the cuts raise, and talk about what action we can take to organise resistance.

At the end we’ll get together to discuss the various proposals, upcoming action (like the Anti-cuts lobby of Leeds City Council on 27 Feb and Leeds TUC mayday demo) and finally national issues that are important to the cuts, like climate change and the national TUC’s consultations on the question of calling a general strike.

The Convention is called by Leeds Against the Cuts, supported by Leeds TUC, and a host of local trade unions and campaign groups are backing it, building it and attending – has yours yet? Bring along your banner, if you want to help sponsor one of the workshops get in touch.
